Mr. Ahmed Al Nuaimi is guest speaker at the QBBF luncheon series
11 July, Doha, Qatar – Mr. Ahmed Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Qatar tourism and exhibtions authority was recently invited as a guest speaker at the monthly Qatar British Business Forum (QBBF) luncheon series held at the Ramada Plaza Hotel in Doha.
After an introduction by Mr. Robert Muir, Chairman of the QBBF, Mr. Al Nuaimi addressed more than 100 businessmen and women of the British community covering a range of topics related to tourism in the current economic environment. “If international tourism could be reduced to one simple word it would be ‘friendship’,” said Mr Al Nuaimi. “Tourism, after all, is an invitation from the people of one country to another to share in their customs, history and habitat. Few countries enjoy as special a friendship as Qatar and the UK. We are partners in energy, in investment and of course, in tourism.” Around 40,000 British tourists visit Qatar every year and nearly 11,000 British nationals live in Qatar.
Mr. Al Nuaimi spoke of the chance for new and innovative ideas to emerge and new alliances to be forged during this current economic downturn. He highlighted the attractiveness of Qatar to the British traveller, citing the convenient and affordable flight options between Doha and London and the activities on offer which would satisfy the adventurer as well as the traditionalist from the 563m coastline and vast deserts to the new Museum of Islamic Arts and the authentic Souq Waqif. “Highlighting our authentic heritage and rich past, while instilling pride in our future, Qatar is a bridge between heritage and innovation,” said Mr. Al Nuaimi.
Qatar believes that tourism is a key part of its future. Qatar is spearheading a surge in interest in the Arabian Gulf as a market for cruises. Mr. Al Nuaimi highlighted Qatar’s commitment to travel and tourism through the many infrastructure projects that are being executed to accommodate the increasing number of business travellers and visitors.
