Qatar's Prime Minister Arrives in Beirut
Beirut, April 28 (QNA) - H.E. Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani arrived Wednesday afternoon in Beirut on a two-day official visit to the Republic of Lebanon.
H.E. the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister and the accompanying delegation were welcomed upon arrival at Beirut Rafiq Al Hariri International Airport by Lebanon's Prime Minister Saad Al Hariri, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Elias Al Murr, Foreign Minister Ali Hussin Al Shami as well as a number of ministers.
H.E. Qatar's Ambassador to Lebanon Saad bin Ali Al Mohannadi, Lebanon's Ambassador to Qatar Hassan Youssef Saad, a number of Arab ambassadors and the Qatari Embassy in Beirut were also on hand to welcome H.E. Qatar's Prime Minister and the accompanying delegation. (QNA)
The Qatari- Lebanese Higher Joint Committee held a meeting on Wednesday at the Government Palace, chaired by H.E. Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani and Lebanese Prime Minister Saad al Hariri.
H.E. Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister delivered a speech at the beginning of the meeting, expressing his great thanks and appreciation to the Republic of the Lebanese Government and people for hospitality and warm welcome extended to him and the accompanying delegation as well as good preparation and organization for making this important meeting a success aims to develop relations between the two countries and two peoples in all areas. He wished Lebanon and its all progress and prosperity under its wise leadership.
H.E. the Premier and Foreign Minister stressed the Qatari-Lebanese Joint Higher Committee meeting in Beirut at this time is a reflection of the political will expressed by H.H. the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, and Lebanese President Michel Suleiman towards bolstering and deepening ties between the two countries in order to achieve common goals and a desire to strengthen the bilateral ties in all fields.
H.E. Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani expressed hope that this meeting will provide opportunity to exchange views on the Committee's work and review what have been achieved so far as well as new proposals for the promotion and development of relations between the two countries in line with the visions and directives of the leaders of both countries.
For his part, the Lebanese Premier Saad Hariri in his speech welcomed H.E. Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al-Thani and his accompanying the delegation, noting that this welcome stems from " strong fraternal ties between the two countries leaders H.H. the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and H.E. the Lebanese President Michel Salman."
He described meeting of the Qatari- Lebanese Joint Higher Committee as reflection of the two leaders will who "confirmed during the recent visit of H.H. the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani to Beirut to give a strong boost and qualitative shift of the relations between the two countries as well as activating the bilateral cooperation in various fields."
He reiterated Lebanon's readiness to employ all the ways in which relations with the State of Qatar to be an ideal, and expressed confidence that the committee's work will culminate in the outcome and reflect the level of the common aspirations and contribute to enhancing ties between the two countries.
The two sides also signed the first executive program of the cultural agreement and technical cooperation between the two countries for the years 2010-2012, it was signed for the Qatari side by H.E. Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, and for the Lebanese side Minister of Culture Salim Warda.
The two sides also signed executive program of the Qatari- Lebanese cooperation agreement in the field of youth for the years 2010-2012, which was signed for the Qatari side by H.E. Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, while it was signed for the Lebanese side by Minister of Youth and Sports Ali Abdullah.
The two sides also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for Radio and TV cooperation radio, which was signed for the Qatari side by H.E. Executive President of Qatar Media Corporation and Director General of Qatar News Agency (QNA) Sheikh Jabor bin Yousuf bin Jassim al-Thani, while it was signed for the Lebanese side Minister of Information Tareq Metri.
The sides also signed an agreement for cooperation and news exchange between Qatar News Agency (QNA) and the Lebanese News Agency (National Media Agency) which was signed for the Qatari side by H.E. Executive President of Qatar Media Corporation and Director General of Qatar News Agency (QNA) Sheikh Jabor bin Yousuf bin Jassim al-Thani and signed for the Lebanese side by Minister of Information Tareq Metri.
The two sides also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for tourism cooperation which was signed for the Qatari side by H.E. Chairman of the General Authority for Tourism Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, and for the Lebanese side, by Minister of Tourism Fadi Abboud.
The two sides also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the exchange of financial information and investigation of financial transactions suspected of their relationship to money laundering and terrorist financing between the Financial Information Unit, State of Qatar and the Special Investigation Commission of the Lebanese Republic, which was signed for the Qatari side by H.E. head of the Finance Information Unit at Qatar Central Bank Sheikh Ahmed Bin Eid al-Thani, while it was signed for and the Lebanese side of Mohammad Baasiri from the Bank of Lebanon.
Finally the two sides signed an agreement for setting up the Businessmen Council between Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) and the Federation of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture in Lebanon, which was signed for the Qatari side by QCCI Board member Rashid Nasser Al Kaabi Industry while it was signed for the Lebanese side by President the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Agriculture and industry Mohammad Zaatari.
Earlier, H.E. the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani held talks with the Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Rafiq al on bilateral ties and means of further enhancing them develop.
Talks also dealt with various current political issues of mutual interest and developments on Arab, Islamic and international arenas.
The two sides also reviewed the outcome of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
Later, the Lebanese Premier hosted a dinner banquet this evening at the Government Palace, in honor of H.E. the Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim Bin Jabor al-Thani
The function was attended by H.E. the Deputy Premier and Minister of Energy and Industry Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah members of the official delegation accompanying H.E. the Premier and Foreign Minister.
On the Lebanese side, it was attended by Nabih Berri, Speaker of Parliament Fouad Seniora, former Prime Minister, former Lebanese President Amin Gemayel, as well as a number of other senior Lebanese officials.
