Qatar Tourism Authority holds meeting with hotel GM's

New Hotels committee to be formed

Doha, QATAR (January 27, 2010) -

Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) held a meeting with twenty-five general managers of 4-and 5-star hotels in Qatar on Monday. It was the first time that such a meeting was organized for the industry.

"With the significant growth in hotel rooms and accommodations in Qatar, it became clear that holding a general meeting of the constituents was in order," said Mr. Ahmed Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Qatar Tourism Authority. "The meeting had two objectives: firstly, to facilitate networking opportunities with the newcomers and secondly, to discuss issues and topics related to the hotel industry and the promotion of Qatar and working side by side with Qatar Tourism Authority in this regard."

The agenda for Monday's meeting covered the cooperation of hotels in promoting Qatar internationally to the business and upscale markets, a discussion of the issues the hotels are facing, and the invitation to the hotels to participate in local events organized by QTA such as the first Doha Food Festival. Also discussed was the cooperation with the 2022 Bid Committee and the signing of a contract between the Committee and the hotel sector with regards to the FIFA requirements to host a World Cup. At the meeting, QTA raised a suggestion about the necessity to establish a representative committee for hotels in Qatar, with the goals to raise the level of practice and awareness among the tourism industry in Qatar, to develop and revitalize tourism in Qatar and to set the agenda to achieve these goals.

This new committee will be comprised of representatives from the 3-, 4- and 5-star hotel sectors. The committee will meet on a monthly basis with QTA to discuss the new issues and procedures which belong to cooperate and coordinate with Qatar Tourism Authority in all areas of work related tourism and its development . The seats on the committee association will be held on a six-month rotation. Qatar Tourism Authority will chair the meetings.
