
Chairman of Qatar Tourism Authority meets with South Korean Ambassador
Tourism cooperation discussed
Doha, Qatar (November 19, 2009) – The Chairman of Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) met with the new ambassador of the Republic of Korea at the Doha Exhibitions Center on Tuesday.
Mr Ahmed Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Qatar Tourism Authority, met with Mr. Chang See-jeong, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Qatar. Also present at the meeting was Mr. Mohammad Al-Hafnawi, Legal Advisor of QTA and Mr. Koo Heonsang, First Secretary of the Korean Embassy in Qatar. Mr. Chang has been recently appointed ambassador to Qatar for the Republic of Korea.
Mr. Al Nuaimi discussed with Mr. Chang the continuation of bilateral cooperation on tourism between Qatar and Korea. Earlier this year, Mr Al Nuaimi met with senior officials of the Korean Embassy in Qatar to discuss ways to enhance Qatar’s tourism strategy with partners in Asia and cooperation between Korea and Qatar in the tourism sector. Mr. Al Nuaimi and Mr. Chang discussed procedures to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on tourism collaboration between the two countries.
Speaking about the meeting, Mr. Al-Nuaimi commented: “At Qatar Tourism Authority, we promote tourism as a way to diversify the economy of Qatar and of countries with which we partner. Today, Qatar and South Korea are already strong partners in trade, and given the synergies in our industrial and commercial sectors, there is potential for further development in other areas including tourism.” Mr. Al Nuaimi stated that Seoul will be one of the key cities on the Qatar Tourism Authority roadshow to Asia, which is being scheduled for early 2011.
Mr. Chang officially invited Mr. Al Nuaimi to participate in the 2011 UNWTO General Assembly in Seoul, the world’s largest international conference on tourism. Mr. Chang also invited Qatar to participate in the 2012 World’s Fair to be held in Yeosu in South Korea. The theme for the 2012 exposition at the southern port city of Yeosu will be “The Living Ocean and Coast”.
Mr. Chang invited Mr. Al Nuaimi for an official visit to Seoul to explore different opportunities with South Korea and to further tourism cooperation between the two countries.
