Qatar:  A new emerging luxury destination

Record number of VIP buyers visit the QTA stand in Cannes

Cannes, FRANCE (10 December 2009) – Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) representatives and co-exhibitors have been successfully promoting Qatar to VIP buyers at the International Luxury Travel Market in Cannes this week.  Record numbers of tour operators, events planners and MICE organizers visited the stand to find out more about Qatar as a business, upscale leisure and cultural destination.

“Qatar has become an attractive destination for luxury travelers and businessmen”, said Mrs. Soha Al Fadl Moussa, Head of Promotions and Organizing Abroad Exhibitions for Qatar Tourism Authority.  “We have met many VIP buyers who are looking for inspiration in planning special events and trips for their clients to destinations which offer authenticity and high quality services. They were very interested to hear that Qatar’s facilities offer them a unique blend of luxury, culture and tradition which can cater to their niche business clientele.”

Mrs. Farzana Dobbs of Link Express Travel in the United Kingdom organizes trips for her niche market travelers. “We have started organizing trips to South Africa on Qatar Airways and are very interested in adding a 3-4 night stopover in Qatar for our clients”, says Mrs. Dobbs.  “The facilities are top quality with good services.  Al Sharq, the Pearl-Qatar, the Museum of Islamic Art – each one offers a luxurious experience and will appeal to our clientele.”

Mrs. Odile Gallois is a meetings and events consultant for Helmsbriscoe International in Paris.  “We are looking for a new luxury destination to host our events”, said Mrs. Gallois.  “Though I have heard about Qatar as a travel destination, I was very impressed to find out about the build-up of the tourism infrastructure.  Many of the top hotel brands are represented in Doha, and there are many projects which focus on the comfort of the luxury traveler.”

From incentive companies with corporate and high net worth clients to events planners researching venues for arts exhibitions – everyone is looking for ‘somewhere new’ to add to their travel itinerary.

This is the second year that Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) is participating in the International Luxury Travel Market, the leading business to business event for the global luxury travel communtiy.  ILTM is one of the industry’s most important global platforms for promoting luxury travel, unique travel experiences, ultra-luxurious accomodations and elite transportation.

Qatar Tourism Authority is accompanied by an important delegation representing the examples of high-quality standards Qatar has achieved to become an upscale destination, including Destinations of the World, Fal Travel Mart and Al Sharq Hotel.
