Doha, Qatar (June 2nd, 2009) Qatar tourism exhibtions authority (QTEA) has been highlighting the strength of Qatar’s tourism and exhibitions sector during the Qatar Economic Forum currently held at the Sheraton Doha Resort and Convention Centre. QTEA is showcasing the future of Qatar’s tourism and exhibitions industry with a stand at the forum as well as being a platinum sponsor of the event.

 

QTA has emphasized to delegates at the forum the strength of the Meetings, Incentive, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) sector in Qatar by highlighting details of the 25 exhibitions scheduled during 2009 at the Doha Exhibitions Centre. In addition, QTA has presented details of two new exhibitions centers opening in 2011; the Doha Exhibition Centre and Tower and Qatar National Convention Centre.  Both world class exhibition centres will cater for the increase in international exhibitions being held in Qatar.  Future exhibitions in Qatar will cover a large range of topics ranging from Economics, to Oil and Gas, as well as Education and Health representing the two main pillars of Qatar social development.

 

Within the tourism sector, Qatar is benefiting from an investment increase of US $17 billion over the next five years in tourism infrastructure which is making Qatar even more attractive to visitors and events planners. This includes the construction of luxury hotels, resorts and other leisure facilities. Qatar will see a 400% increase in hotel capacity up to 29,000 rooms by 2012.

QTA has the privilege of working across many sectors of the Qatar economy both in the public and private sector which will contribute to the record level of investment. This investment in infrastructure and QTA’s promotion of the country internationally is consolidating Qatar’s position as a destination of choice for international business and recreational travelers.
