Chairman Al Nuaimi: Participation promotes Qatar's position as a global business & trade centre

The aim of the trip is to contribute to consolidating the premier position of Qatar in the region as a unique destination for conference and exhibitions and incentive-based tourism.

 
The QTA delegation to IMEX is also accompanied by a selection of Qatari leading travel, tourism and hospitality companies, including Retaj Hospitality, Fareej Sharq, Swiss Belhotel, La Cigale Doha, Doha Marriott, Le Vendome Hotel, Regency Holidays and World Stations Qatar.
 
Chairman of Qatar Tourism Authority, Ahmed Al Nuaimi, said: "QTA seeks, through the participation in the IMEX tourism exhibitions, conferences and incentives to strengthen Qatar's position as a global hub for business and trade. This participation comes to stress that tourism industry in Qatar is based on the prosperity of exhibitions and conferences tourism being ranked first among the types of other tourism activities,” he said.
 
 “It will help us achieve the objectives of the tourism strategy which is to promote Qatar as a unique global tourist destination known as an innovation centre for trade and business in the region in addition to make tourists and visitors aware of a high world-class high tourist attractions and cultural heritage in Qatar.
 
"Qatar is well and truly on the map of business tourism and has been recognized by winning a recent award for “Middle East's Leading Business Destination 2011” " at the World Travel Awards in Dubai in 2011. This award was given to Qatar as a result of Doha flourishing as a notable destination for hosting and the development of the meetings and conferences sector.
 
“QTA continues its efforts for the promotion of Qatar, which become known as a high level commercial destination to strengthen its tourism position in various sports, recreational, cultural and educational purposes", Mr. Al Nuaimi added.
 
He explained: “IMEX is an ideal opportunity for us to review the most important developments in the Qatar tourism, especially in the infrastructure of booming exhibitions and conferences sector and the increase of hotels. Business, exhibitions and conferences tourism has formed, over the past years, 90% of the total visitors to Qatar. It is scheduled this year to open Qatar National Convention Centre at Education City, as well as 35 hotels, hotel apartments and residential units totaling 6369 additional rooms to meet the great demand from meetings, conferences and events industry coming to Qatar. This includes this year’s World Petroleum Congress, which will be hosted by Doha in November.
 
"As one of the most important and largest international exhibitions specialized in incentives and conferences tourism sector, IMEX provides enormous opportunities to QTA delegation to meet directly with leading incentives, conferences and exhibitions tourism providers and officials in Europe and establish new partnerships with new contractors around the world, enabling us and our local and international partners to focus greater attention on Qatar tourism as one of the promising tourism markets," said Al Nuaimi.
 
More than 3500 exhibitors from150 countries, including local and regional travel and tourism companies as well as the organizers of conferences and exhibitions, participate in IMEX 2011. Doha: May 24- Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) is participating in the three day event IMEX, the largest global exhibition in the industry of meetings, conferences, exhibitions and incentives, which inaugurated in Frankfurt.
 QTA is accompanied at IMEX, by a high-level delegation, along with senior officials of the Qatar National Convention Centre and the Qatar Institute for Development of Exhibitions and Conferences.
