Doha international Airport
The Airport is just 8 km from the city centre, with Doha’s Corniche, the old city centre and the West Bay business district all within 15 minutes’ drive. Most hotels will arrange airport pick-ups and drop-offs. Various car-hire agencies have kiosks inside the Arrivals terminal, and metered taxis are readily available outside.
The fare to the city centre should be less than QR25 (US$6.85) in the daytime, QR30 (US$8.24) at night.
Doha Airport is served by 31 international airlines, including the national carriers Qatar Airways, British Airways, KLM and Emirates, which all operate regular scheduled flights from Europe, the US, Australia and New Zealand, amongst others.
Qatar Airways operates a ‘meet and greet’ service called Al Maha for both arriving and departing travellers at Doha Airport. The fee is QR100 (US$27.47) per passenger and QR70 (US$19.23) for each additional passenger. Travellers will be met after the flight and taken to the Al Maha Lounge; while enjoying refreshments all passport control, immigration and customs procedures will be dealt with. Regulations for hand luggage are currently the same as for all other international airports – all liquids, gels, pastes and aerosols, with a maximum volume of 100 ml per item, must be carried in one transparent, re-sealable plastic bag per passenger.

Completed at a cost of almost US$ 100 million, Doha International Airport now boasts the world’s first terminal dedicated exclusively to the needs of Qatar Airways’ first and business class passengers.

The Premium Terminal is a luxurious and relaxing oasis of comfort for all Qatar Airways customers. It offers a ‘hassle-free’ experience from check-in to departure, with dedicated first and business class lounges on the first floor featuring separate dining areas with hot and cold food available throughout the day and night. Other facilities include a duty free shopping area, spa, sauna, massage treatments, children’s play area, conference and meeting rooms, business centre, free internet access, prayer rooms and a medical centre.

The airport has a large duty free section, and alcohol can be purchased by departing travellers.

A ticket from London Heathrow to Doha Airport currently ranges from QR4,000 (US$1,100) to QR15,000 (US$4,120), depending on the class of air travel and the airline used. Combination air fare-hotel deals can be cheaper than arranging air travel and accommodation separately. Costs can be reduced by using packages offered by tour companies or airlines in the country of origin; it is also possible to find better prices using an online specialist travel site. A three day package from the UK could vary between QR4,230 (US$1,162) and QR7,475 (US$2,048), depending on the time of year (high or low season), airline used, class of air fare, and the category of hotel accommodation required.
