
The purpose-built 45,000 sq m Doha Exhibitions Centre has 15,000 sq m of exhibition space, along with a business centre, meeting and VIP rooms, a bank and a coffee shop. Located near the InterContinental Hotel, near West Bay Lagoon, it will host 25 exhibitions in 2009.
The Qatar National Convention Centre, opening in 2011, is located in Doha’s Education City. The QNCC will feature nearly 40,000 sq meters of exhibition space without pillars divisible into 7 halls. The flexibility of the building offers the capacity for a conference or gala dinner for 10,000 guests. There is a dedicated multi-purpose hall for 4,200 guests. In the convention center, there is a 2,500-seat auditorium, a 500-seat theatre, an auditorium with capacity for 300-472 delegates. It will be one of the largest convention centers in the Middle East.
The stunning architectural design is centered around a steel replica of the Sidra tree. Traditionally, the Sidra tree was a retreat for poets and scholars, who gathered beneath its branches to discuss and impart knowledge. A beloved icon in Qatari history and culture, the Sidra tree is an apt symbol for the Qatar Foundation and for the Qatar National Convention Centre.
