Although Qatar is a Muslim state, alcohol is available in some five star hotels’ bars and restaurants throughout Doha. However, you won’t find alcohol served in street cafés and restaurants other than at Spikes Bar and Oasis Bar at Doha Golf Club, Al Mandaloun Nightclub and Restaurant on the 8th floor of Alfardan Centre, Garvey’s European Family Club, and Al Hasbah and Nimro at Dana Club.
Many of the venues that do serve alcohol remain open until the wee hours, but visitors who choose to imbibe should be aware that there are stiff fines for consuming alcohol other than on licensed premises or at home (you must have a liquor permit). Driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offence and could lead to prosecution if a traffic officer even smells alcohol, especially if involved in a car accident. Alcohol is never sold or served during the Holy month of Ramadan.
