Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar offers students a choice of three undergraduate degrees in Business Administration, Computer Science and Information Systems.
Carnegie Mellon Qatar has been offering its programs in Computer Science and Business Administration since 2004. The new Information Systems degree, which started in Fall 2008, links with the degree courses already on offer, providing the knowledge and skills to design effective systems for data management.
An effective ICT infrastructure has been identified as one of the main pillars of the knowledge-based society that Qatar aspires to become. Carnegie Mellon Qatar is training the specialists that will develop this infrastructure for the country's future needs.
In partnership with the Qatar Science and Technology Park, Carnegie Mellon Qatar is presenting an Executive Entrepreneurship Certificate Program that is open to managers and employees of large and small companies, government agencies, and individuals. In this way it is helping create an enterprise culture in Qatar.
A purpose built, state-of-the-art learning and teaching facility for Carnegie Mellon Qatar recently opened in Education City in February 2009. Carnegie Mellon Qatar's second graduating class held its ceremony in the new building in May 2009.
The university was founded in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1900 by industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. A major grant from benefactor Richard K. Mellon in 1965 aided the establishment of a Computer Science Department that became the genesis of Carnegie Mellon's worldwide reputation in this field.
The university was established in an environment of rapid industrialization and economic growth, similar to the circumstances that currently prevail in the State of Qatar. Since its inception, it has prided itself on finding solutions to real problems facing society.

Georgetown University
The Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar (SFS-Qatar) is a branch of the Edmund A Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, DC.
SFS-Qatar currently offers a four-year liberal arts curriculum, with a major in International Politics, leading to a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service degree. Studies cover government, economics, literature, philosophy and theology, preparing graduates for leading positions in the diplomatic arena, international business, academia, and the non-profit sector. SFS-Qatar accepted its first students in 2005.
As Qatar's influence in the Middle East region and the world increases, it has an increasing need for people with a deep understanding of international politics.
The Center for International and Regional Studies at SFS-Qatar fosters original research, especially on the Gulf region and the Middle East. It is devoted to the academic study of regional and international issues through dialogue and exchange of ideas, research and scholarship, and engagement with scholars, opinion makers, practitioners, and activists. It conducts original research, as well as holds a variety of outreach programs for the local community.
The SFS-Qatar campus is currently housed in the Liberal Arts and Science Building (LAS) at Education City. Its own building, to open by the end of the current decade, has been designed by Mexican architects Legorreta & Legoretta.
Founded in 1789, Georgetown University is America's oldest Catholic and Jesuit University. It was the first university in the country to develop a liberal arts undergraduate program focused on international affairs and approached from an interdisciplinary perspective, and it remains one of the worlds most renowned.
Northwestern University
Northwestern University in Qatar began teaching its programs in journalism and communication in the fall of 2008, becoming the latest foreign branch campus to join Education City.
The Bachelor of Science in Journalism program trains students in core journalistic skills within a liberal arts context. The Bachelor of Science in Communication program prepares students to work in a variety of creative and management roles in the media and entertainment industries.
Qatar is rapidly becoming a media hub of the Gulf and needs professionals for its media and communications industries. A vibrant media scene will bring about greater transparency and accountability, which are hallmarks of successful societies and essential to successful implementation of Qatar Foundation's mission.
Northwestern University's home campuses are at Evanston, Illinois, and in the city of Chicago. It is a private institution, founded in 1851.
The Medill School at Northwestern is a top-ranked program offering study in Journalism, Media and Integrated Marketing Communication. Northwestern's School of Communication, also a top-ranked program, offers a program in Media Industries and Technologies at NU-Qatar.
Texas A & M
Texas A&M University at Qatar offers undergraduate degrees in chemical, electrical, mechanical and petroleum engineering. With its long-standing reputation as a leading academic and research institution, Texas A&M University's branch campus has been welcomed into Education City as a key partner for industry, research and education. Its engineering programs are highly rated and its graduates are sought after to provide leadership and innovative solutions to challenges in their field.
Texas A&M at Qatar graduated its first two pioneering engineering students in 2007 and its first full class of engineers in May 2008. In the same year Texas A&M became the first university to offer two graduate programs: a Master of Engineering Degree and a Master of Science Degree.

VCUQ
Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar (VCUQatar) was the first university to come to Education City in 1998, and celebrated its eighth graduation in 2009.
VCUQatar offers the opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Fashion Design, Graphic Design or Interior Design.
Degree programs foster creativity and a passion for design by encouraging the application of ideas while respecting the regional heritage. The learning environment at the university allows for one-to-one feedback from faculty members and allows for a combination of research and hands-on design projects.
Graduates have helped build up the creative industries in Qatar which has become an important element in the country's new knowledge-based economy.
The campus regularly hosts and organizes conferences, exhibitions and gallery events, as well as an annual fashion design show and a design competition for high school students. These have contributed significantly to Qatar's cultural calendar.
Virginia Commonwealth University is located in Richmond, Virginia, and its School of the Arts is one of the US's largest and most highly ranked design schools.

Weill Cornell Medical College
Qatar (WCMC-Q) is the first American university to offer its MD degree overseas. Part of Weill Cornell Medical College, one of the top-ranked clinical and biomedical research centers in the US, WCMC-Q shares its mission of excellence in education, patient care and research.
WCMC-Q is the first medical school in Qatar and a pioneer of coeducation at university level.
The Medical College offers an integrated program of pre-medical and medical studies, with teaching by Cornell and Weill Cornell faculty. There are separate admissions processes for the Pre-medical and Medical Programs.
With an emphasis on students as adult learners, the development of skills of critical analysis and problem-solving, collaborative work in groups and an early introduction to patient care, WCMC-Q is preparing physicians, and citizens, in Qatar and the region for a future of lifelong learning, and for successful careers as members of healthcare and biomedical research teams.
Working with the National Health Authority, Hamad Medical Corporation and Qatar Foundation, WCMC-Q is actively contributing to the health of the community. The Medical College is also assisting with planning Qatar Foundation's Sidra Medical and Research Center which will become the primary teaching hospital for the Medical College; together, they are set to form an academic medical center of international standing.
The biomedical research program, to be conducted with partners in Qatar, will contribute significantly to establishing the nation's future research capability. It is designed to build research and training capacity, and to carry out specific projects, with a focus on genetic and molecular medicine, and women's and children's health.
Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies
The Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies (QFIS) is an international center for Islamic thinking and dialogue, committed to enhancing research into Islamic culture.
QFIS began its two year General Diploma in Islamic Studies in 2007. This was followed in February 2008 by an MA in Contemporary Fiqh and an MA in Public Policy in Islam.
Arabic and English are the languages of instruction for all programs.
QFIS serves Qatar Foundation's primary missions of education and research, and ensures the sustainability of important aspects of the country's culture by illuminating Islam's contemporary role.
Learning at QFIS takes place in an open, intellectual atmosphere, incorporating respect and social responsibility in accordance with Islamic principles.
QFIS is based on the plurality and tolerance of Islamic Jurisprudence and civilization. It provides a structure of study that adapts and contributes to a modern and changing world. The curriculum illustrates the richness and diversity of Islamic culture, emphasizes the openness of the Islamic faith, and demonstrates the power and potential of Islam to serve humanity.
The Faculty's graduates are strongly-grounded in Islamic faith, practice, and civilization, and are open and prepared for engaging with all that their civilization produced, and with the wisdom and thought of other civilizations.
