“Qatar Week: Ferjaan in Tokyo” is five days event held in Tokyo’s Roppongi Hills, scheduled from September 27th to October 1st 2012. Ferjaan, which means ‘neighborhood’ in colloquial Qatari Arabic, will feature a 1,500 m2 Cultural Village that will showcase modern Qatari culture through a historically accurate representation of a souk, the traditional Arabic market place. The souk will host exhibits from Qatari companies and will showcase a number of cultural projects. Accompanying this will be Qatari entertainment, a number of informative talks and presentations, and a selection of Qatari products.

Qatar Museums Authority has also launched a number of competitions. ‘Qatar Through the Eyes of its people’, showcases various aspects of Qatar including the development made in the country. Ten shortlisted photos will be displayed during Ferjaan. There was also a Manga drawing contest in which entrants must depict Qatari culture and traditions in a way that would interest Japanese audiences. The top three entries will be printed in a booklet and distributed at ‘“Qatar Week: Ferjaan in Tokyo”.

The organizers of Qatar-Japan 2012 are Qatar Museums Authority, Ministry of Culture in Qatar, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Qatar, the Embassy of Japan in Qatar, and the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Japan. In addition, the initiative is supported by several contributing partners who play key roles in business and culture.
