Situated on the 28th floor of Doha's iconic Tornado Tower, La Varenne Restaurant is more than a welcome addition to West Bay's growing dining scene. Currently only open for breakfast& lunch, La Varenne serves up a good selection of French classics such as 'French Onion Soup' and some La Varenne specials. The restaurant has its own bakery on site and bakes fresh pastries and breads in the morning; and it shows. If you're a coffee and croissant person, then La Varenne is the place for you. The head Chef hails from the UK and has worked for Gordon Ramsay's flagship 'Royal Hospital Road' restaurant, so you're in good hands. There's a business lunch on offer; 85 QR for 2 courses or 95 QR for 3. Our favourite thing about La Varenne though and something that we felt makes it unique, is the presence of some truly fabulous original artwork. There's a Damien Hurst, a Lichtenstein and a couple of Keith Haring's thrown in for good measure. In fact, it's worth going just to see the art. There's a very laid back, sophisticated feel to the interior of the restaurant, but without any dreaded pretentiousness. Service is top notch. With stunning views of Doha's West Bay high rise district, you can even see the Arabian Gulf between the skyscrapers. The bar has been raised in Doha and places like La Varenne are setting the standard. Long may it continue!
