Bridge in International Relations
Qatar endeavours to establish relations of solid cooperation with all peace-loving peoples and nations in the context of mutual respect and common interests to promote and serve international peace and security. It generously provides assistance and financial help to numerous developing countries around the world, as well as participating in various regional and international development funds to serve international cooperation at the broadest possible level.
The State rejects and condemns all forms and aspects of terrorism in all its manifestations, while stressing the need to distinguish between terrorism and peoples’ struggle and legitimate right to gain freedom and self-determination in accordance with the rules of international law.
With the creation of the first Arab satellite news channel, Al Jazeera, in 1996, Qatar broke the monopoly on State controlled media in the Middle East. By allowing viewers to see all sides of the story, Al Jazeera set a precedent for Arab media and to date remains the most popular Arabic language news channel in the world.
Qatar welcomes all agreements to settle such disputes and supports the efforts of regional and international organisations to bring about peace in numerous countries and regions to guarantee global security and stability.
Driven by a determination to be a fully independent player abroad, the Emir set a record through several political mediations, such as the Doha agreement for Lebanon in 2008.
Sharing natural resources and knowledge with the world has allowed the State of Qatar to become a major player on the global political stage.
 
Active member of international organisation
After declaring independence in1971, Qatar joined the Arab League and the United Nations. It was a driving force in the formation of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) grouping Qatar with Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Qatar has chaired the Organisation of Islamic Conference and served as a non-permanent member on the UN Security Council. In 2004, it assumed the chairmanship of the Group of 77 and China.
